DTWG (Desire to Worship God) started in 2003 when Sam Adebanjo: the visionary of this urban praise and worship team had a passion to see change in the music industry. ‘I have seen the negative effect secular music has had on many people I grew up with’ says the front-man. This ultimately spurred a passion for "the lost" and the birth of Sam & DTWG.
Sam Adebanjo went from being a Muslim, being homeless and being in trouble with the law, to being a man after God's own heart. His experience has encouraged him to go out and his share his testimony through song!
Sam & DTWG are becoming a household name on the UK Gospel Scene. It's not surprising with their rich harmonies, soulful arrangements and contagious melodies. Their songs are influenced by experiences in their daily walk with God. Their vision is "to use the powerful message of the gospel to impact our generation; as well as promoting gospel music in mainstream communities". Sam & DTWG's music style is an eclectic gospel mix; it comprises of contemporary worship, neo-soul, R'n'B with funky beats, and African-inspired sound.
Founded in 2003, they have many accomplishments under their belts; having shared the stage with the likes of Mary Mary, Emeli Sande, Muyiwa and Riversongz, Ron Kenoly and many more…Additionally, they have performed at celebrities’ functions and events including the wedding of BBC Match of the Day presenter, Colin Murray.
it's clear to see that their music is well received by Christians and non-Christians alike.
Other notable recognitions includes their 2011 appearance on the Channel 4 show Jamie Oliver's Christmas with Bells, receiving both a Praise-Tek Gospel Music Award in 2012 for Great Contribution to Gospel Music and taking home the BEFFTA Award 2010 for Best Gospel Act. Sam & DTWG has also been nominated for Best Gospel Act in the following: Urban Music Award 2010, the Gospel Music Awards 2010 & 2009 and the MOBO Award in 2009. In addition to these achievements, this talented group of worshippers have embarked on two UK tours and featured on the national "TruPrint" campaign, advertised on national television.
